Local summer camp as a camp counselor; lifeguard at a pool; department store of any kind; wait tables, bar tending; local hospital orderly; nursing home assistant; physical education coordinator at local senior center or nursing home
Reply:I work part time at a Walgreens and I just love it. Consider other retail stores like clothing, shoes, Foot Locker, sporting goods stores, etc. HURRY... employers are starting to hire now for summer help.
Reply:I would look at sites like snagajob.com, yahoohotjobs.com, craig'slist and start there. I'm not sure where you live in relationship to theme parks if there are any but I always check their websites just to see what they are offering.
Don't be afraid to do a internet search for sports+internships in your area some of them do pay.
If you were active in sports in high school you may be able to hook up with local state universities for camps or they also may be able to point to in another direction.
I'm not sure if you plan on attending college or playing sports in college but if you contact the athletic director of some universities they may be glad to help you out. I landed a job doing sports medicine for a summer and I did it through the athletic director.
Keep in mind if this is only for summer you are running out of time because most companies that are doing summer hiring it ends late May early June. That is if they haven't made their decisions already.
Reply:Look in the phone book and and set up and appointment with a temp agency. (like Manpower, Kelly Services, etc.) They can set you up to do temporary work whether it be factory work or office work. That's your fastest bet.
If you are really into sports, go into the government blue pages in the phone book and look for the parks and recreations department. They will tell you how to apply and whats available. They hire city pool lifeguards and coaches/coaching staff for kids softball/soccer/etc. and that kind of stuff. However, this is only for the summer usually and is a good choice if you plan on going to college in the fall.
You can also go to all the local gyms and put in an app. Most of them just require some form of customer service background.
If you have no work history, a temp agency may be the best way to go. Best of luck.
Reply:You might want to check your local community college. I know one in our city has several classes that only last a couple (2 or 3) weeks for classes in lifeguarding and swim instructors. Don't know if you're a swimmer, or if that's sports related enough for you, but it could give you enough "education" to make up for any lack of experience you may have. Might help with a job at a water park.
You might also check at your local golf courses to see if they have anything open.
Another idea is maybe at a summer camp. Don't know if those jobs pay much, if anything, but again, it would give you some experience to help towards a sports job you'd like to have in the future.......
Hope that helps some!
Good luck, and just remember that WHEN you do get an interview, to just be yourself!
