Filled out on line and noone hardly does the paper applications anymore? So when you try and tell your parents and others that are not computer literate to the simple stuff of computers they get all pissy and think that now adays you must go to every shop store whatever to apply? My folks do not understand that at all. This is not the 70's or 80's.
Why does the older generation meaning our parents not realize that 99% of ALL jobs are looked for and filled?
its hard to find jobs because of this. even if you did try and submit a paper application, people look at it like it is a dinosaur bone. my only real job has been at sears and i got that because of a friend. i was fired after 3 months..
Reply:The first answerer was a little harsh, lol. I don't know how old you are but that is true for a lot of jobs. Computers have replaced almost everything. If you need to find a job, you should be on the computers non-stop, filling out applications.
However, I will say that it is harder with the way the economy is now to find a job, but you can try a temp agency, too.
Reply:This online application trend is only a couple of years old, so old timers don't realize how much the internet has become a business tool. It still doesn't hurt to put on a good suit and go business to business sharing copies of your resume. Even if a business isn't hiring, you might score an interview and a return call. Be sure to include your email address on your resume.
Reply:Well, I wouldn't say that ALL jobs are filled. Thinking that way won't get you anywhere. But most of your job searches must be done online. That's how things are nowadays.
But my 86-year-old grandmother recently told me that I don't have a job yet because I sit my lazy butt on the computer all day.
Uhm, helllooo??? What do you think I'm doing all day on the computer?
They don't know any better. Just let them rant. It won't affect your job search, dude.
Reply:So, I take it this is your excuse for not working?
I don't buy it. Every job I've gotten, I've filled out the supposedly "dead" paper apps.
Get off your butt and and find a job!
Reply:It's hard to break people of what they are used to, but it can help you to show up to a potential job in person
