Should I start looking for another job so soon?

Last week my boss called my department together and informed us that his supervisor told him that if we don't step up our work that she will let us go and outsource our jobs to another company. I agree I can always improve and I try to do so everyday but the problem is that she isn't happy with the work my boss is doing for the most part. I've only been here eight months and I planned on looking for another job after my year rolled around but the fact she has threatened to fire us if "we" don't step up has me worried. I've never been fired before and I want to leave the company on my own terms. So should I start looking for another job now?
Should I start looking for another job so soon?
Yep. Start looking. It's not worth it to have that kind of threat on your head. If the boss isn't happy with your department's performance (but you're doing superior work on your own), then either look for another department or job, but try to leave on your own terms. Try to find something else and then give notice that you're leaving.
Reply:if you feel that is what you need to do then try it!

I personally would explain to your VP that your boss isn't doing there job right and if given the chance you could proof that to your VP by doing that humans job!

that way you get promoted and can show them what is up!
Reply:yes, and in the interviews simply state that the company has mentioned eliminating your department and you wanted to start the job hunt before you were out the door.

that is understandable.

don't mention the threat of shutting down and the poor job of your department.

your management team needs to understand that threats like that will just result in poor motivation and high turnover.

that's poor management on your boss and his boss.

take care and good luck on the job hunt.
Reply:Yes, it is always good to have something waiting in the wings. No one will look after you, but yourself.
Reply:If I were in your shoes, I would definitely be looking for another job. Right or wrong, the way I would read it is if management is threatening to outsource, they're looking for a reason to outsource. It might be an idle threat to shake people up (or maybe just shake up your boss), but if I needed my job, I wouldn't take it idly.

Good luck!
