I am looking for a government job that only requires high school diploma?

Hi. I am just looking for a government jobs that require only high school diploma. My husband is a Border Patrol Agent. I'd prefer not to go in that line of work. Does anyone have ideas?

The Bureau of the Interior and the Bureau of Indian Affairs has many jobs that don't require college. You may have to relocate..
Reply:You might consider an Administrative / Secretarial position. Many of these require only a High School Diploma, perhaps a typing speed of 35 words per minute, and a solid work history (ie, not having been fired from your last 5 jobs none of which lasted more than a week). Many agencies are also starting to bring in receptionist staff to include your Wal-Mart style door greeters.





Unfortunately, most specialist type positions do require either a higher education or a good amount of experience. But, even then you may find entry level apprentiship type position designed to give those with only a high school education an opportunity to gain the required minimum experience for a specialist position.





In my case, I started working for Employment Security as an Office Clerk (with no college degree). After a year of this, I expressed my interest in becoming an Employment Specialist and my employers thought it would be a good fit so they moved me into a training program. This program did not affect my pay as I was still technically an Office Clerk. I completed the program and am now a Specialist 1, preparing to apply to Specialist 2 positions in the near future. I've also gone back to college more recently to obtain my degree, but you don't need to follow that path if you don't wish.





Just remember, every employer (including the government) is looking for people who can meet the needs of the company. When you apply for a job, look at what their needs are then show how you fill those needs. By focusing on how well you fit they're needs you're more likely to be asked for an interview.

It really depends what you want to be doing... There are always maintenance type jobs that the government need filling
