How much pay should I be looking for in this job?

I am applying for a night shift job at a local PetSmart. They are asking me what I think the minimum I should be payed is. I am only 18 and have not had experience at a night job so I don't know how much I should suggest. The work is stocking supplies and all that jazz. I need money to pay my college tuition and I am a night owl so I figured since 3rd shift makes more then normal shifts I'd go for it. Your help is greatly appriciated.

I'd ask for at least $10/hour but they are probably thinking closer to $8. If they are offering an overnight manager job where you would have keys to the store, ask for at least $14. It really depends on the level of responsibility you are being asked to take on.

If they are going to hand you a planogram and tell you to put the stuff on the shelf just like in the picture, they'll pay lower. If you are going to make merchandising decisions, unload the pallets, and lock up the store, they should pay more.

Regional factors also come into play. If you live in a very expensive city, pay goes up.....slightly.

If you like working nights, you might see if there is a UPS sorting facility near you. They have a lot of 4 hour night shifts that a lot of college students like. The starting pay isn't great BUT part time jobs with UPS come with full benefits---health insurance, paid vacation, paid sick days, tuition assistance, etc. Off topic but another option to consider.
