Computer programmers - where do you look for jobs?

My company needs to hire a computer programmer - contract only... hopefully a 1 time re-write of some custom windows based software and occasional upgrades/maintenance.

Anyway - WHERE do you guys look for jobs like this? Monster or some other website? I dont want to put an ad on the wrong place and get 5000 replies from people who are useless.

Monster is quite good, as is Dice.com. Some states also have state-wide sites as well; these are generally worth looking for.

For contractors, there's a lot of value in going through a contracting company. I do this all the time to hire contractors for my office. The contracting company already has resumes on file, as well as places to advertise, and they do a pre-screening for you. They'll filter for people with the applicable skills, and try to send you only viable candidates.

Many contracting companies will actually do a technical screening on their own, to verify a person's skills before sending the candidate to you. Of course, there's also the benefit that once you've selected the contractor, the contracting company handles payroll and all administrative work.

Reply:find a reputable recruiter. You may need to get several at first, but then only deal with the ones who perform (send you qualified candidates). The recruiters do charge, but depending on your business, this may be money well spent.

Using the public job boards like Dice.com and Monster.com is great, but you will get flooded with resumes and phone calls........the recruiter is the buffer between you and your candidates and the recruiter will only send you the "qualified" ones which will allow you to concentrate on finding/interviewing the right person for the job instead of sorting through hundreds of resumes
Reply:Monster sucks. Plain and simple. I look on these sites.

Reply:Try craigslist, I found its the best place to look for a job when I am looking, and I hear from people hiring they can not stand monster etc, due to the fact they get so many responses from India etc, saying they will work for pennies on the dollar (which is fine but I am assuming you need a person in house and physically there).
